Certification systems for sustainable construction
Building certifications such as EU Taxonomy, BREEAM (as of April 2024: under development) and DGNB assess the sustainability of buildings. Among other things, they take into account energy efficiency, resource consumption, choice of materials and the health and comfort of users over the entire life cycle.
These certifications are important for builders, investors and developers in order to improve and communicate the quality and sustainability of their projects. The reporting obligation that comes into force ensures continuous compliance with the standards.
One focus of these certification systems is on adapting to climate change to make buildings more resistant to extreme weather events such as storms, floods and heatwaves. This promotes the creation of buildings that can cope with the challenges of climate change.
K.A.R.L.® offers customized climate risk assessment solutions that meet the requirements of the respective certification system. This gives building owners and real estate developers the opportunity to optimally prepare their construction projects and meet the required standards for certification.
EU Taxonomy
The environmental objective 2 of the EU Taxonomy Regulation 2020/852 by the European Commission deals with adaptation to climate change. The K.A.R.L.®-TAXO reporting tool developed by our team of experts can help here.
BREEAM
The Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method BREEAM (as of April 2024: under development) is an assessment system for the sustainability of buildings. The focus is on ecological sustainability and resistance to climate hazards.
DGNB certification
The German Sustainable Building Council (DGNB) has a certification system that assesses the sustainability of buildings. There is a special focus on climate risk analysis – and this is precisely where our innovative tool can help in the future.
